Why location shoots will always be my favourite…
I often get asked, ‘Out of all the shoots you do, what’s your favourite?’, and after photographing families for over 6 years now, I can say location shoots are my all time favourites.
We are so lucky here in Norfolk that we have hundreds of stunning locations right on our doorstep. I love nothing more than using these beautiful spots as sets for shoots whether that be for a family, children, maternity, pet or another subject to shoot! As much as I love my studio in Swaffham, it unfortunately isn’t big enough for large groups, this means family shoots in excess of 7 people need to be done somewhere on location.
However, fear not!
Typically, location shoots offer a more relaxed environment, so for anyone feeling quite nervous about their photos being taken, being on location rather than confined to a small studio space under spotlights is perfect. Shoots on location also offer a larger array of backdrops as we walk from area to area to get the perfect shots. I find location shoots are also great for nervous children, they have the freedom to move, run, play and do their own thing! This is great because playing on swings, running down hills, climbing trees and kicking a ball around we can’t do in a studio - but being out and about instead allows me to get the best candid photos of your little one.
As some may already know, I am a natural light photographer and there is nothing more beautiful than getting outside and enjoying the light it naturally produces. No flash photography, just embracing whatever weather situation we are greeted with. A big, blue sky, a golden sunset or a moody grey evening with striking clouds, no two shoots are ever the same and that’s what I love. In some cases I will use a flash in order to produce a more creative shot, when it’s darker, mainly with couples. But 99% of the time, my location shoots are during the day or early evening when you’re little ones are still up and about and can be included.
Furthermore, my location shoots have no limitations on group sizes (apart from whilst the government is enforcing lockdown measures), bring Nan, bring grandad, Aunty, cousin and the dogs too! Get the whole family involved. If Covid has taught me anything, it’s to cherish your loved ones, be thankful for those we have around us still and be sure to capture every moment.
So enough waffling from me! Here are just a small handful of shots from some recent shoots are the glorious Castle Acre, Norfolk. By far one of my most popular choices for clients. The castle is so versatile as well as having the option to walk through the village, through the meadows and down to the fords for even more picture opportunities.
And guess what?!
My location shoots at Castle Acre are discounted meaning a 1 hour shoot here, USB of 30 images of your choice, watermark free and an online gallery is only £150. If you would like to get a session booked, please get in touch.
